Bobby J Baggett, CPA

Chief Financial Officer

Bobby has been Managing Member of Valeo Capital LLC, a private equity and transaction consulting firm, since 2005 and has recently joined Venture Capricorn as a principal and its Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Baggett is a seasoned CPA and financial consultant with over 35 years of experience in a variety of roles and industries with a primary focus on M&A transactions and clients in transition – both on the buy-side and sell-side. Mr. Baggett draws from his experience in hands-on C-level executive positions and his prior growth-focused CPA firms, including “Big Four” and regional CPA firms.  In addition to his consulting business, he maintains a boutique tax practice that compliments his transactional consulting services. Bobby’s professional history with CPA firms includes:

  • Co-founder, Partner and Chairman of KBA Group LLP - grew to be in the top-ten largest firms in the DFW area including the national firms & became the largest single-office CPA firm in Dallas; was eventually acquired by BKD LLP.

  • Co-founder & Partner-in-Charge of Taxation and Advisory Services of JonesBaggett LLP - became the 9th largest firm in Collin County; merged with Whitley Penn LLP.

  • Co-founding partner with Baggett, Drews, Adams & Kipp - merged with KGA Group to form the aforementioned KBA Group.

  • Partner-in-Charge of Tax in the Dallas office of Elms, Faris & Co. - a regional CPA firm with offices in Midland, Odessa, Dallas, Austin and Lubbock; eventually merged with Weaver & Tidwell.  

  • Earlier in his career he served as a Tax Manager with the national firms KPMG and EY.

 

Mr. Baggett’s previous C-level & board positions in private industry include:

  • CFO and board member of Primexx Energy Partners, Ltd. - raised over $400 million in private equity and secured $200 million in bank debt during his tenure; and led Primexx up to the sale of controlling interest to Blackstone in 2016.

  • Co-owner & Chairman of Neofirma, Inc. – a start-up company backed by Boone Pickens, Neofirma builds intuitive, web-based software to help independent E&P companies improve management of drilling & production activities in the field; was acquired by W Energy Software for 15 x EBITDA in 2019.

  • Co-founder & co-owner of Valeo Capital LLC, a private equity company which acquired controlling interest in Dallas-based Paranet Solutions, LLC (a service provider of IT systems, cybersecurity and remote management).  Bobby served as consulting CFO to Paranet and its acquired subsidiaries during the pre & post-closing integration stages of the platform companies.

 

Today Bobby provides M&A consulting services including fractional CFO consulting, sell-side transaction preparation, buy-side due-diligence, transaction structuring, post-acquisition integration, litigation support, expert testimony, forensic accounting and valuation services.  

 

Bobby is a CPA, a cum-laude graduate of Rawls College of Business – School of Accounting at Texas Tech University, previously was a member of the Rawls C.O.B. Advisory Council and served on the Texas Tech’s School of Accounting Advisory Council.  Mr. Baggett is also a certified member of the Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS) division of the AICPA.  Since 2015 Bobby has served on the Board of Directors of the Domestic Energy Producers Alliance (DEPA), a national non-profit organization (with a separate PAC lobby entity) supporting the U.S. independent oil and gas industry and serves on DEPA’s Regulatory and Tax Committees.  Bobby is active in supporting the arts and education in his community and currently serves on the board of the Plano Symphony Orchestra (past president), the ArtCentre of Plano, and the Willow Bend Hunt Club (a non-profit benefiting the Folds of Honor organization). Bobby is also serving as chairman of the Arts & Cultural Plan for Plano  which is anticipated to be completed in 2025 by the City of Plano. 

 

Mr. Baggett’s honors include being named 2014 CFO of the Year Finalist by the Dallas Business Journal, selected as one of the 21 Leaders for the 21st Century by the Collin County Business Press, received the For the Love of Arts – Volunteer of the Year award by the ArtCentre of Plano and is a graduate of the 2nd class of Leadership Plano.  Bobby has three kids, Brooklyn, Emily and Rey… all born, raised and educated in Plano, Texas. Bobby is an avid golfer and enjoys skiing, hunting and most anything outdoors including long distance bicycling and triathlons.
